We are a 16 year old online business in Rhode Island specializing in adaptive cycling. We have a worldwide customer base and are respected for our expertise. Although proficient in our field of expertise we feel we are lacking in technical knowledge on the web .
Our website is built on a magento platform. We feel our presentation is good but Its reach could be improved. We are looking for someone who knows his or her way around web development. Someone to guide us.
To certain degree we feel we are held hostage to our web development company. As an example, we found the platform to be lacking in search capabilities. We found an app and contacted our web developer who quoted nearly $xxxx to implement. We reached out to the app developer who told us that it is a simple implementation taking no more than an hour and that he would do it for us for $50. Our Web development company suggested that they would not be responsible for issues that occurred afterwards. We see many extensions that we could add to our site but feel that we will not get the corporation for my web development company. We wonder, are there other alternatives ? Should we fear taking our website to a different server company like rack space thereby having more control over the backend?
We use QuickBooks online for accounting and authorize.net as our gateway. We've experienced some errors in transactions whereby authorize.net indicated complete transactions when in fact the payment was not transmitted to us. Is authorize.net the best solution?
